Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder (review)
Not bad at all.
I enjoyed the new interesting mix of characters, especially Moon Man. he was just a hoot with all his cryptic messages and ability to appear out of no-where - i hope at some point that Yelena will go study with him.
I like how Yelena discovered her abilities and accepted who she was - though there were a few rather unfortunate times when she allowed herself to get carried away with her self confidence and in turn almost ended up dead quite a few times, which is partly why i rated this book the way i did. but otherwise she was her usual fun snarky self.
"Now, now" i said. "play nice."She jumped. "What? How?""I have found your soul, Roze. It's dark and nasty in here. You've been hanging around those criminal types too long. You better change your ways or this soul wont fly to the sky."
Her amber eyes burned into mine with all the hate and loathing she could muster. Underneath, though, she was terrified. Hate and loathing didnt bother me, but fear was a powerful emotion. Fear causes dogs to bite and Roze was one bitch."
I was stoked to see Janco and Ari again, if anything i wish they showed up more through out the book!
"For what? We didnt do anything," Janco grumbled."For caring enough to follow my guards. And the next time, I might need the help."
"There better not BE a next time," Ari said, giving me a stern look."How touching," Janco said, pretending to wipe his eyes. "Get going, Yelena. I dont want you to see me cry." he faked a sniffle."
[....] "Didnt I tell you, Ari? She's come to say goodbye after all. And you were pouting and miserable for days," Janco said.Ari just rolled his eyes, and i knew if anyone was miserable it was Janco."
The relationship Yelena had with her family was odd, besides Leif she got along with them freakishly well, but then i suppose her parents were pretty cool.
"Good," Perl said. "Saves me the effort of cursing him.""Mother!" I was astonished. "can you do that?""Perfumes and scents are not the only thing i can concoct."
The world was just as awesome as before - I enjoyed seeing such a different side to the same 'world' and there was SO MANY different mini cultures to experience as well which was just plan fantastic!
Im deff intrigued about were Yelena will be headed after this. Magic Study gave us a vague idea but this IS Yelena we're talking about, not like she ever sticks to the plan! lol
