Shingvere crowed. "At last, our battle cry," he said. "A bath, and the king be hanged!" he shouted, brandishing his fork. "Clean clothes, then victory!"
though I am surprised at the contempt Meralda speaks of the king, but then i suspect it's mainly bitching. She's obviously follows all his suggestions and demands. I think its more along the lines of how a spy master may say the king is an idiot for doing something or another, while still being utterly loyal to said king. Just frustration leaking through to the surface from the demands that are placed on them.
