The premise and outline for the story was fascinating, I always wanted to know what happened next which is sadly the only reason I manged to finish this book. Unfortunately for me the characters felt flat, especially the main character. A big problem for me was that I was repeatedly told how incredibly intelligent she was (especially for a female -_-) and yet based on everything I read in this book I have zero proof that she is anything above dumb, which is truly sad. I don't mind dumb characters except when I'm constantly told that they're not (Drives me bonkers!) and in circumstances like these (where men look down on women as the weaker sex) I would much prefer the character to be more than just a special snow flake.

2.5 stars. I won't be reading any more of this series.

I've never really paid that much attention before but thinking back on it Briggs seems to favour slow-burn relationships which is a big part of why I love her books, plus her characters are amazing.

It took me longer to get into this book than the others, mainly because at the beginning I was preoccupied with determining when and where this book was set (somewhere on the other side of the swamp would be my guess) and how it was related to Sianim. Of course I still have no bloody clue even with the hints it dropped here and there.
Anyways after I got over that and just settled into the story I started to really enjoy it. Loved the characters and the overall story, but I missed Aralorn & Wolf.

Very enjoyable book. 4 stars

On another note, while I am going to rate this book 5 stars because it was spectacular I did notice during a moment that should have been heart-breaking I was feeling fairly 'meh' about it emotionally.

The main character was clearly dropped on her head as a child, and I had a lot of other issues with this book. Weirdly I still enjoyed the writing style, enough so that I didn't ditch the book. Which is saying something. The topic was also rather interesting.

Still had some major issues, like the MC being insanely shallow. 2 (ish) stars.

I loved this book. I was unsure at the beginning, but I'm so glad I stuck it out. This book is 100% one of my favorites of 2016.
NEED to get my mitts on book 2!!

India Black was so much more than I expected, I absolutely adored this book. India is a wonderful, sassy, hilarious & brilliant character, plus she has this devil may care attitude which is perfect being that she's a madam.

I'll admit I did a little happy dance when I discovered that there is more adventures. Ridiculously excited to get my digits onto those!!

4 Stars.

There is something strange going on with some of the writing in this book. It almost seems as though it was translated, but not super well. Who ever edited this book should have tried again before allowing it to be printed....

There was also a big WTF moment around page 20, where the MC & her mentor/father-figure/boss are rolling around on the floor laughing hysterically and crying all because the MC pulled a funny face while playing their version of paper-scissors-rock! seriously?
I'm 25, same age as what-ever-her-name-is & I wouldn't find that to be overly amusing. I thought to myself 'hey maybe it's just her time period?' then thought about it again and Nope, It's definitely something someone under 10 would find hilarious (possibly younger) and not a grown ass adult no matter when the story is set.

Started watching Luke Cage on Netflix last night and they have the most amazing bar/club on the show. If they had a place like this in Brisbane, I swear I would live there..... Anyways that's Where they I heard this guy ^^^

Doesn't he sound incredible? Ignore the film clip, I believe it's from a movie.....

What an entertaining Book. Love the MC and her wicked sense of humor.
Can't wait till I get my digits on the next book!!

4.5 stars. Desperately need book 2

A few are bound to end up dead soon - no everyone else would die except the main few, it is an assassin book after all. I think Hush & Jess will survive. Hush obviously because there's something secretive going on with him & Jess cause she's the only 'villain'.

I do enjoy how crass & gritty this book is. Very amusing. Here's 2 quotes as examples:

'That dubious honor belonged to the Lonesome Rose, a pleasure house in the Godsgrave Docklands frequented by syphilitic lunatics & newly released convicts, run by a Vaanian madam so disease-stricken she affectionately referred to her own nethers as 'The Orphan Makers'.

 

'Mia noticed one of his eyes moved slightly before the other, like a child leading a slow cousin by hand!'

I'll admit I'm confused about the italics part. It appears to be an odd mixture of past history, memories & falsehoods written in a lyrical fashion by someone who loves the MC?

Who also doesn't appear to believe in full-stops.
