Reading

I found this on Aerin's blog and thought what an excellent idea! so here we go...

1. Do you remember how you developed a love for reading?

Yes actually. I was never really interested in reading until I was in grade 12 (17 years) my housemate was reading something (possibly robin hobb) with this giant goofy smile on his face, he just looked like he was having the time of his life, so I asked him if he had anything i could read. He in-turn gave me Pendragon, which was a fantastic first book for a new reader. It stared a boy only a few years younger than I who went on exciting and dangerous adventures to other strange worlds. I really should thank Ben.

2. What are some books you read as a child?

Well i only ever recall reading one book as a child and it had something to do with a vegetarian vampire who lived in a shoe box..... ahh here it is, Vlad the Drac by Ann Jungman.

3. What is your favorite genre?

Hmm it would have to be Urban Fantasy, which i do believe is actually a sub-genre.

Most of my favorite series are based in that genre which is why i chose it.

4. Do you have a favorite novel?

Difficult question.... I do not believe so, though the book that has impacted me the most was probably Victrix: Triumph in the Roman Arena. I have no clue as to why, I am obviously not a gladiator, its not even the first book (which i still havent read) but for some odd reason when i read this book i cried for like a week afterwards.

5. Where do you usually read?

Everywhere its possible to read, I'm one of those people you see walking down the street attempting to read while not being run over or crashing into anything. the only place i don't read is while driving.

6. When do you usually read?

On the way to or from work, via the train. Unless Hamish and Andy are on. or on the way to friends places. They would be my two most common reading times.

7. Do you usually have more than one book you are reading at a time?

No. I have a terrible habit of confusing the story-lines and characters otherwise.

8. Do you read nonfiction in a different way or place than you read fiction?

I don't actually read much non-fiction. though i suppose when i do, i don't do it any differently. I imagine i just try to take it in more and the meaning behind the story, being that when i do read non-fiction its usually on terrible things, such as massacre's, lynching, child abuse, murder etc... probably why i don't read it much. lol.

9. Do you buy most of the books you read, or borrow them, or check them out of the library?

This year I made a promise to myself to only read books i own. I just had to many sitting around the house it was ridiculous. Even after 10 months worth of reading i haven't managed to get through all of them. though otherwise I'm a library fiend.

10. Do you keep most of the books you buy?

Yes. I have great difficulty getting ride of them, the only ones i do chuck away (donate, give to friend etc.) are ones i truly did not enjoy or never imagine reading again. though i do enjoy giving back to the library that gave so much to me. I occasionally by them a book their missing just so they can lend it out to others.

11. What are you reading now?

I'm actually just in between books. I just finished Clockwork Prince and I'm now contemplating what to read next. I even posted two things asking other booklikers their opinions on what i should read next.

13. Do you keep a TBR (to be read) list?

Umm... I have like 4, maybe 5? my actual TBR list got so MASSIVE it was just a joke. So i now have Wish lists (2011-2014) and a Recommended List, and Audio Want list. and still i either ignore them or add more books to them.

14. What's next?

Well that is the question isnt it? I'm thinking either The Emperor's Edge or The Girl With All The Gifts. but dono, nothing is set in stone.

15. What books would you like to reread?

Oh, so many things! I wish to re-read my favorite series before starting on their latest books. lets say my top two series to re-read at this time is Cassandra Palmer and Kate Daniels.

16. Who are your favourite authors?

Ilona Andrews, Karen Chance and possibly Patricia Briggs and Scott Westerfield.

For me an author has to have written many works, all of which i love, I can see their name written upon something and pick it up knowing that i'll love whatever is inside. thats what makes a favorite author for me and unfortunately not a lot of authors have made the cut. they write fantastic stuff, but not all of it is for me.
